Jagas is a French band quickly gaining a reputation for their knack for bringing life to music, celebrating the vitality of existence. Following the footsteps of dedicated French-language rock and chanson, Jagas delivers spirited and potent songs, steering clear of cynicism and prevailing resignation. On their latest single, “Ma Brésilienne”, keep reading for my thoughts on how they, yet again, manage to knock it out of the park!
The whole song has this distinctly European, laid-back, almost idyllic sound to it that would immediately transport one to a winding road, cutting vineyards in the south of France; from the first chords on the accordion, to the gentle, smooth flowing vocals, and the tight drumming that keeps the listener firmly rooted in their senses, taking in every part of the song, as it unfolds. This is backed by strong harmonies, as well as rather clever soungwritin,g making use of the elements of the mix to bring forth something that is absolutely delectable to listen to.

The production follows a nice balance between traditional French music, with the accordions and the plucked basses, and a modern twist courtesy of the ringing rhythm guitars and the synth basses, which all come together to create a sound that is enjoyable, and unlike any other. There is so much to appreciate about this song, and it’s all right there in front of you thanks to a great mix that lets all the elements of the mix shine through with excellent clarity, accompanied by smart use of the soundstage, which only serves to compliment and further the essence of this song.
