Piano pop music that feels like a hug: Lisa Goldin’s ‘How Love Can Start’

South African pop artist Lisa Goldin has one of those careers that sneaks up on you. Hailing from Johannesburg, she’s done it all, charted in South Africa, picked up awards in Dubai, and shared stages with the likes of Ed Sheeran and Jessie J. Her hit single My Fire ranked second on South Africa’s Hot 91.9 FM. Goldin’s global career spans the UK, UAE, and Asia, earning awards like Best Theatrical Performance at the 2013 Time Out Dubai Nightlife Awards.

But more than all that, it’s her voice that sticks out. There’s range, depth, and something that just feels quite raw and honest. Her latest single ‘How Love Can Start’ is a beautiful example that. Lisa Goldin crafts a soft piano-driven pop tune that eases into your day like sunlight through a window. This one’s perfect for that sleepy early morning moment when you’re still trying to figure out what time it is. A perfect song in the adult contemporary pop genre.

The production is crisp and polished but never overdone. Goldin’s vocal performance emotes with full power and controlled composure. Lyrically, the song is about testing the waters of an old connection, wondering if something real can still grow from what once was. One can feel the nostalgia, hesitation, and a quiet hope that maybe the spark can begin again.

Lisa Goldin doesn’t need gimmicks. ‘How Love Can Start’ is heartfelt without being cheesy. And just plain nice to listen to. Sometimes that’s all you want from a pop song. And sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.
