Jupiter Trap - The Flow State
Jupiter Trap - The Flow State

Jupiter Trap induces that treasured ‘Flow State’ with ambient prog post-rock single

A lot of us yearn for that flow state. That ‘zone’ where you’d accomplish everything your mind sets its target on. Well, I don’t always achieve it, but guitarist Rachit Sachdeva, with his latest single ‘Flow State‘ as part of his prog post-rock project Jupiter Trap, certainly propels me in that direction. We get some astutely pieced together instrumental, post-rock ambient prog rock song that induces that state.

The Mumbai musician has been crafting some exquisite instrumental proggy bangers from his single ‘Dimension Jump‘ in 2020 to cerebral gems like ‘Particles‘ and ‘Mortal Drop‘. You can hear the emphasis on atmospheric ambience across his work, and ‘Flow State’ is no different in that regard. However, in terms of things going on, this single takes a more laid back approach.

A sense of calm is woven with the delayed clean guitar lines and the sets. The snare fill then creates anticipation as the ambient synths create a sense of peaceful anticipation. As the song progresses, each element forms of a mesh of interconnected prog motifs, culminating in some chuggy riffs. Jupiter Trap explores the experience of the flow state quite well, I’d say.

Sachdeva has assembled an impressive roster of collaborators. Legendary drummer Gino Banks brings his signature genius on the drums. Ariel P‘s keys, pads, and piano add lush harmonic depth, while Marco Toba‘s bass work provides the subtle warmth that holds everything together. Paris Parasidis‘s mixing and mastering ensure each element breathes within the sonic space, never cluttering the arrangement.

With “Flow State”, Jupiter Trap exemplifies some fine instrumental storytelling. An environment, a sonic catalyst that propels you toward your own productive zone. It’s ambient prog done with intention and heart.
