In the enchanting realm of ambient music, Giardini Oort’s latest single, “Humans,” unfolds as a sonic odyssey, inviting listeners to embark on a profound journey of self-discovery. The track seamlessly weaves together ambient, downtempo, and Lo-Fi elements, creating a soundscape that defies the constraints of traditional genres– keep reading for my thoughts!
Ambient music has always held, to me, a special place in my heart– and that shows, in the amount of ambient music that occupies my library; seemingly endless tunes that tell one story after another purely with sounds that would not sound out of place in the background of a really nice cafe in Paris; and that is, indeed, the case, with “Humans”! From the soothing, almost transcendental quality of the steel pans in the intro, to the steady symphony of the rain in the background, the one thing that this song does better than anything else is to set the atmosphere. Objective achieved and battered, I may say, because that is the point of ambient music; to create a listening experience.

As the composition progresses, percussion and synths entwine in a harmonious dance, forming an undercurrent of drama that steadily builds to a mesmerizing climax. The music pulses with an unspoken narrative, encouraging listeners to explore the mysterious depths of human existence– or at least, that is what I felt; with all the elements of the track coming together in what is akin to a beautifully conducted ballet performance.

Ethereal vocal samples, reminiscent of whispers from the cosmos, construct a tapestry of gentle imagination, sparking reflective thoughts amid the otherworldly melodies. Harmony follows harmony, and as the percussion kicks in towards the end of the song, I was left both wanting more and fulfilled at the same time; a rare, and mesmerising occurrence.
Overall, “Humans”, by Giardini Oort: what do I think? I think you need to listen to it to truly put into your own words, in your own minds, the spectacle that this is. Check out the track here!
