It’s a real joy to listen to the latest single “Fumes” by UK alternative and indie rock act HorthWorld. The band is the project of UK singer-songwriter Andrew Horth from Melbourne, Derbyshire. HorthWorld’s music blends alternative rock with indie, pop, power pop, punk, shoegaze, and synth.

HorthWorld’s debut single ‘Watercooler Girl ‘ was sound engineered and mastered by Nick Brine of Oasis, Stone Roses, Coldplay, and Arctic Monkeys fame. Good old British alternative and indie rock. And boy, are those some artists and genres I really love! You can also really hear it in their music. We’ve got those sweet, catchy melodies and catchy hooks that stay with you that move from humor to deep emotional honesty. The single artwork is also a nod to the animated show The Jetsons.
‘Fumes‘ produced by Natt Webb, is about a couple leading busy lives that when they finally get to spend time together, it ends up eating into the time they should be getting some sleep. When you just can’t get enough of each other. “Running on empty” while making those late-night choices, stealing sleep amid the chaos of life, and feeling both worn out and excited by the pursuit.
The song is dominated by upbeat guitar-driven melodies, and the track really makes you feel euphoric by the chaos of everyday life. The guitar sound here is nice and fuzzy with that shimmer that makes it sound exhilarating. Midway through, there are some amazing chord/key changes that really keep the sound fresh, coupled with the super catchy chorus. So go spin ‘Fumes‘ by HorthWorld, and put on some nice romcom movie, enjoy the night away!
