STAND-IN is a California-based R&B and Pop artist. Having traveled the world as a professional dancer, he’s finally found his calling in music. He creates music that is groovy, speaks his truth, and most importantly, works well.
Harley is a short track that goes hard. STAND-IN does a brilliant job to create a sort of acoustic, yet electronica track that supports his authentic lyrics. Using, what sounds like, personal experiences, STAND-IN is able to craft a beautiful story. It sounds like he’s singing about a girl, but he mentions old Harley t-shirts, which could be referring to the motorcycle manufacturer. I’m inclined to believe that the song is about a girl, though as STAND-IN seems to be addressing someone throughout the track.
The track has interesting beats that pick up the pace and slow down, dynamically. It adds this really cool effect that affects your heartbeat as well. I’m a huge fan of 808s, and this track seems to use them really well. I love the little guitar riff that plays throughout the track. However, what really steals the show for me are the vocals that sound so effortless. There’s a little backing vocal running along with the lead that adds depth to the track. The synth work is commendable, especially how it’s used to create little bits of percussion here and there.
I think Harley is a really great track that deserves a little more recognition. Don’t hold back!
