After a deep excavation of Surreality, indie-pop outfit, Azulo has published their results, and it’s the best thing ever. Showcasing various flavors of surrealism and their many allures, the duo, William and Davita, captivate us with magical instrumental blends and transcendental vocals.
Metaphorical Moments
Merry-Go-Round gives us a taste of the magical realism that is contained in the album. Melancholy blossoms out of the dainty vocals, soothing and enrapturing. Warm basslines and soft piano melodies make for a touching backdrop. The muffled sheen of electric guitar riffs rages in the distance, creating a sense of depth and dimension. Reminding us of fuchsia sunsets and dancing pansies, the song puts us in a fuzzy headspace.
Warm strings trace whimsical patterns in the Waiting Room. The playful beginning is soon overwhelmed by pounding drum beats and fuzzy basslines. William’s enticing baritones serenade us. The deep timbre of the voice revels in the simplistic composition. A pulsing rhythm persists throughout the song that draws us into an alluring loop. With no beginning and no end, the rhythm showcases the inescapable quality of the waiting room. Molten guitar riffs are layered over fuzzy riffs, over blossoming basslines.
Lavish Oddity
The Glass begins with a gleaming line of melody backed by an intense basslines. Gloomy and bleak, the track is numbing and blue. The lilting vocals drips with a melodrama and mystique that is reminiscent of Lana Del Rey. With the muffled riffs and upbeat grooves, setting the tempo, the pulsing melodies, linger to envelope us in its hypnotic haze. The more we consume, we rise with the levity of a dream. Higher and higher we go and dissolve into the clouds.
The Walk opens with an upbeat retro rhythm. It has a spooky vibe as the vocals sport a strange whimsy. Just in time for Halloween, the song has a Melanie-Martinez allure to it. Davita’s voice amplifies the eccentricity that the piano melody brings. A tragedy wrapped up in an infectious rhythm, the track is a fusion of chunky basslines, whimsical keys, and haunted vocals.
Star Showers
Concluding the album, we have Surreal, an acoustic bliss. Incredibly levitating, the track reminds us of twirling autumn leaves, graceful ballet dancers, melting snowflakes, flickering candles, polaroid photos, and heart-aching memories. Sparkling synths shower the soundscape like falling stars that the magical vocals weave into constellations. Dreamy and light, soft hints of William’s baritones filter into Davita’s vocals. A radiating light consumes us and fills us with an inexplicable melancholy and overwhelming joy.
