Prime Panda – Love Departed | Progressive Jazz

UK-based five-piece neo-soul music group, Prime Panda have burst onto the scene to add their own twist on the scene. With Jazz-infused melody lines, and chords, fat rhythms, powerful vocals and some truly psychedelic soundscapes, Prime Panda has got your head spinning in the best way possible. The fact that the band has cited Hiatus Kaiyote, Black Midi and Erykah Badu as some of their influences tells me everything I need to know about their music.

Love Departed reminds me of jamming out in a session room with some friends, seeing where the music takes us – however, in a more constructive manner than any sessions I’ve ever been a part of. The keys and guitars have this jazzy, bluesy relationship that really has your body grooving until you hear the slow, yet powerful vocals. The whole track has your brain wondering whether to catch up or slow down to what you’re hearing. However, it doesn’t matter, because you’ll always end up with the right answer (As is the case with Jazz). The transitions really get to me as a lover of chaotic energy in music.

I believe that if a song sounds like it has individual distinguishable sections it makes it an absolute masterpiece. Love Departed is a brilliant track from the ever-flowing creative minds at Prime Panda. If you are a fan of bands like Hiatus Kaiyote and Snarky Puppy, I highly recommend listening to Prime Panda.
