After a short hiatus, Americana and indie folk rock musician Nate Currin returns with his latest album ‘Ghost Town‘. We are checking the single “The Highway” off of it. With two decades of non-stop touring under his belt, Nate has built a steady indie following in the folk rock and Americana space, with songs like “Oklahoma” (which featured on the acclaimed TV series ‘Shameless’) and “Birmingham“.

Nate has shared the stage with country legends Alabama, as well as acts like Blues Traveler and Neon Trees. Hailing from Georgia, the Florisa-based Curring is a winner of several International Music & Entertainment Awards (IMEA). He often records in Georgia and Nashville, and the recent album was partly produced in both Georgia and Nashville.
Coming to “The Highway”, Nate Currin crafts a bona fide and well-written indie country/folk and Americana ballad. The track builds up slowly with mere vocals and sparse acoustic guitar lines. What I really enjoyed in this song is the wholesome baritone vocals and the rich sounding production sound. It sounds brilliant, especially because it casts musical magic despite having a relatively minimal arrangement.
Lyrically, the song traces a journey of self-reflection and longing with the highway as the central metaphor for emotional wandering and the search for closure. It’s about refusing to settle for anything less than profound love. The song is accompanied by a reflective and melancholic music video directed by Jeffrey Singer. The video’s imagery deepens the sense of emotional yearning, mirroring the song’s themes of vulnerability, bittersweet longing, and hope.
So, sure do spin this one on “The Highway“. Nate Currin has sculpted a song you can share with your significant other and savour a heartfelt moment.
