Michael Belsar’s remix of Fonteray’s eccentric anti-genre electronic track, “Flash Of Colour”, is an uplifting chill-step version of the song with a different flavour than the original. Fonteray’s version, featuring vibrant synths and groovy basslines, was inspired by the fusion of indie music and neo-soul, in addition to the warm quality of disco and psychedelia. Belsar’s take on the experimental electronic track comprises groovy breakdowns and drops that could easily get you on your feet!
The track begins with a quirky synth arpeggio and some light percussive elements, reminiscent of techno music. Belsar has processed the vocals slightly differently than the original, and I felt the airiness in the tone allows the vocals to float between the instruments wonderfully. With subtle, yet effective drops, the track takes on a very danceable feel that would allow it to play really well in any club setting. Compared to the original, this remix seems to be easier to listen to, primarily because of its simple arrangement. It is good to see Belsar’s own interpretation of the track complement the nuances of Fonteray’s version. It’s not to say that the original lacks anything really, it’s simply a great song with its own unique flavour.
The addition of the processed vocals along with the electric piano melodies here sounds sublime! In addition, the mix is quite clear and all the elements complement each other quite well. As the track progresses, a lot of exciting elements keep getting added, pushing the listener to let go and just vibe! It’s amazing how a remix with just a few changes in structure can create a completely different mood while still keeping the fundamental elements of the track intact.
I think the Melbourne-based producer has done a fantastic job collaborating with Michael Belsar on “Flash Is Colour”. Now the listeners have two distinct versions to enjoy listening to – the slightly unorthodox, yet special original release, and the elevated techno remix that would fit right into your electro-pop playlist!
