“Digital Highway” by Kmalectro: Soothing, grooving techno

Introducing Kmalectro, an artist with a diverse background and a strong passion for music. Born to Afghan parents who sought asylum in Germany, Kmalectro’s journey is rooted in modest beginnings and a deep love for music. With a blend of self-taught skills and formal training as an audio engineer, He has embarked on a musical path enriched by a wide range of influences, including artists from the late ’80s and ’90s. On his latest track, “Digital Highway”, he brings together a wide variety of electronic music influences– keep reading for my thoughts!

From quirky percussion to floor-shaking bass, this track has it all. Starting off slow but energetic, it’s not very long till all the elements come together to form an electric symphony that leaves you, at the very least, grooving in your seat. “Digital Highway” takes inspiration from a multitude of electronic music genres like phonk, progressive house and techno, and that is apparent in the sound design, which I quite loved. The bass remains extremely well-controlled, with it serving as the rhythmic base for all the rest of the layers to behave like the icing on the cake, so to speak.

Stylistically, the song resides firmly in the progressive house/techno realm, with long, dramatic buildups, and very dance-floor-friendly drops that keep the energy high and the crowd happy no matter the stage. There are also examples of an organic, patient evolution of the sonic elements through the song, and that is the hallmark of good electronic music, really, to show evolution and change without voices. That, is where “Digital Highway” shines.

The mixing, as I alluded to earlier, retains power and drive throughout, and the layering of the synth pads with the hard-hitting drumkits is done quite delectably. There are minimal vocal elements throughout the song, but where they do appear, they add a nice cherry on top to the track.

Overall, “Digital Highway” by Kmalectro is the first of many such great tracks slated to be put out by him; and I lie, eager and awaiting. Check out the track here!
