Cam Cole busked London’s streets as a one-man band, using a guitar and foot drums to produce the force of a full setup. He draws from Delta blues, grunge and rock ’n’ roll, and the approach has taken him from Camden’s streets to international tours and even an appearance in Ted Lasso. “Get Up Ya Honky Tonk” offers the first taste of his forthcoming album, Lost in Creation, bringing a much heavier blues-rock sound than its country-flavoured title might suggest.

Honky-Tonk, but Not as You Know It
If you heard “honky tonk,” you probably thought: country, something warm and singalong. Cole’s doing the opposite. The track opens with a bluesy riff, then immediately gets crushed under distortion and heavy drums. Psychedelic guitar effects pile on top of everything. Four minutes, and it feels crowded—intentionally crowded, and nothing has room to breathe.
His voice is rough and gravelly, like he’s trying to shout the room awake. The title repeats over and over, less like an invitation and more like a command. There’s no story here, just sheer momentum. The honky-tonk is just an excuse to move, to make noise, to stop thinking for a while.

Four Minutes of Controlled Chaos
I first heard this on a walk where I was genuinely annoyed at everything, and it hit differently than I expected. Cole’s not interested in clean production. He sounds like he’s performing at full volume in a sweaty club somewhere, and the recording delivers that. The drums have real weight, the guitars keep grinding, and the whole thing feels like it could fall apart at any second but never really does.
If you want spacious, considered production, this isn’t it. If you like your blues loud, distorted and slightly chaotic, Cole’s already nailed it.
