9 o’clock Nasty change the groove again with their latest catchy single, “The Gastronaut”

By now, if you haven’t heard of 9 o’clock Nasty, you’ve been living under a rock, under the crust of the Earth. Their range has been so widespread, it sometimes feels like they’re the radio channel for Leicester, where the lads are from. From a Timberlake tribute to a collaboration with I Am The Unicorn Head, they seem to be running feral. This is their latest single, The Gastronaut.

Raucous rock raving

Technically, it might sound like something Phil Collins would write when he wasn’t dominating airplay in the 80s. It has a prog-rock undertone to it, but the lyrics are purely 9 o’clock Nasty. “If food were the music of love, take a bite.” Now, why would you not say that to your significant other? This is George Harrison’s Something, redefined. If in the song, he meant “something else”. The groove transitions make the experience even richer, while the bass line is as sticky as the table in the last pub you got smashed in.

Predominantly, the bass and drum carry the song, while the lyrics are definitely something that you’ll memorize by the second listen. String work and transitions, along with that piano accompanying the bass like a best friend, reminds you of Beck’s work. 9 o’clock Nasty do make sure to give you a roller coaster, even though you might have only paid for a bus ride.

Check out their recent album, The Worms, that they enjoyed a collaboration for. They also had the very catchy Low Fat Jesus come out a little earlier this year. Their music is the extra french fry you get on your tray, whether that tray is yours or not. They will continue to musically surprise us. Listen to their twisted single here:

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
