Bringing the Hindustani Veena tradition to a global audience, Joel Veena is originally from the U.S and is trained in Indian classical music. Recently, Joel Veena collaborated with another self-made and brilliant musician, Jasdeep Singh, a percussionist from Punjab who is known for playing the traditional instrument Jori. Rooted in Sikh musical heritage, Jasdeep Singh is bringing the folk tradition to the forefront with music that’s anything but ordinary. Together, these two masterful artists recently worked on a project called ‘Reminder’- a piece that amalgamates the zen and blissful elegance of Veena, with the striking, almost cathartic dominance of Jori- a rather unconventional but superior amalgamation. Through glorious meditative melodies of the veena and endearing aliveness of Jori, the piece simply feels like an intense spiritual exploration.
