Bob Gemmell brings a soulful, raw rendition of “Flowers”

Bob Gemmell might be hiding, behind a mask of himself. Melodies resplendent with truth and a unique touch to his performance, this is the raw edge that music of now is missing. It’s strange, as well, to review a song much before the advent of AI in our lives and have no smidgen of doubt that it was written by thought ravaged by emotions and our own process. This one is called Flowers, from his 2019 album Parts and Labor.

Having visited America, that is one place for deep and conscious brooding. Bob Gemmell channels all those roadways, the vast fields. The looming sky as well, to become something of a bubble of thought to experience these tunes through. Flowers has his gentle vocals buzzing with a genuine interest, creating a stark vibration between the instrument and his voice.

A bouquet of feelings

No percussions cloud his mulling. There is nothing to hear, but complete soul. Bob Gemmell brings his voice and the instrument that made him enjoy music on one platform. He sings to us like we share the room with him. Parts and Labour has some other incredible singles as well. This rendition especially stands out, with his music with Dirt Preachers Union as a lining that you can always remember along with this.

The track, and the album as a whole, is a reminder that music is an experience devoid of all the frills we add to it today. It doesn’t have to be overproduced and polished. It is supposed to represent the artist in the most genuine format, Bob in this case as he is. You can listen to and enjoy the song here, and most importantly-feel the music without the noise:

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
