Kendrick Lamar Scores Top Spot on Billboard 200 with Surprise Drop – GNX

Topping the Billboard 200 chart yet again for the fourth time is Kendrick Lamar with his brand new album GNX. Lamar cements his position with his latest album GNX on November 22, 2024.  What dropped the jaws of fans was the unexpected release of the album without any warning which was coupled by just a teaser of a music video just ten minutes prior to its release!

Being his first full-length work since 2022’s Mr.Morale & The Big Steppers, the dropping of GNX was just the kind of plot twist November needed. This marks Kendrick Lamar’s debut project with his creative venture pgLang after bidding goodbye to Top Dawg Entertainment.

GNX has been praised by critics as the masterful integration of Lamar’s West Coast origins with the innovative sound of forward-thinking production. With a wild response received from the audience, the album is seen as a “victory lap” for Kendrick Lamar after a year of public feuds, most especially with Drake. Tracks like “Wacced Out Murals” and “Luther,” featuring SZA, are good examples of Lamar’s ability to tell stories and how his words are reflective.

Kendrick Lamar’s collaboration with artists like Kamasi Washington and producers like Jack Antonoff and Sounwave gives the Compton rapper’s experimental record much more depth. GNX is an experience, a statement that positions Kendrick Lamar’s footing in modern hip-hop.

Racking up a whopping 44 million streams on Spotify within hours of its release, GNX screams immense commercial success. Going a step beyond, 2024 has been quite a year for Lamar. The feathers in his cap range from Grammy nominations, collaboration with Chanel and most importantly his announcement of the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show.
