Fender’s Holiday Shutdown Sparks Layoff Fears, but the Brand Says Otherwise
Fender has denied rumours of mass layoffs at its Corona, California factory, clarifying that a planned December shutdown is part of its regular holiday operations.
The speculation followed a WARN Act notice issued on October 15, covering 533 employees at the facility. The notice listed December 14, 2026, as the start date for the temporary closure, prompting concerns about potential job cuts.
Speaking to Guitar World, a Fender representative said the notice relates to the company’s annual holiday inventory shutdown, scheduled to run through December 31. Employees may have the option to work during this period, and the company confirmed that staff will return in the new year.
Fender also explained that the notice reflects a more formal approach to employee communication, introduced to improve transparency and give workers more time to plan. The company stressed that its annual operating practices remain unchanged.
The clarification comes amid a busy year for Fender, which has drawn attention for sending cease-and-desist letters to 60 businesses, including PRS, Yamaha, Thomann and Amazon, over rights associated with the Stratocaster body shape.
The company was recently in the spotlight for having removed “hundreds of employees” from their official positions amidst an economic downturn at Silicon Valley, being one of the many major brands across California who started reducing headcount ahead of an anticipated recession
