The latest album by Cherry Bomb, Sunset BLVD is an out-and-out rock album that consists of eleven songs, running for a duration of fifty-one minutes, and boasts the classic 80s vibe that will surely take you back to your roots if you have been a thorough follower of rock music through the decades. So, as you tune in to the album, right from the first track, you will find intricate musical influences drawn from bands like Poison, Guns N Roses, Scorpions, Whitesnake, and the list goes on and on.
In the songs of Sunset BLVD, Cherry Bomb showcases its variety and coordination as a band where all musicians sound so much in sync with each other that one cannot help but appreciate it. While the album has a mix of gutsy, aggressive, power rock tracks and ballads alike, each track is nothing short of a blissful piece of composition with high-range vocals, screaming and melodic guitar solos that will completely blow your mind, along with the tight and steady rhythm section where the drums and bass blend in perfect harmony and sync with the rhythm guitars and keyboards throughout.
We were lucky to get a chance to speak to Cherry Bomb, and they were kind enough to share some details about their latest album, Sunset BLVD. So, let’s dig deeper into it!
1) Hello to all the band members. First, Sunset BLVD is an excellent album that will surely reach great heights. So, before we talk about the album, can you give us some information about the band and the start of its journey?
The initial spark was Vince Vixxen’s initiative to form a band resembling the spirit and overall demeanor of all those great 80s heroes of ours. Convincing Chris P. Nuttz and Neil N. Blonde to join the band was pretty effortless overall since forming such a band is like a dream come true and seems like a no-brainer. Chris, Vince, and Neil have known each other for a long time and have been musicians in different bands together, so the overall vibe was already set.
2) Which bands or artists have a common influence on the band members and, of course, on the overall music and soundscape of the band?
The influence is not the same for all members – obviously, playing guitar might lead you to other musicians than playing drums or keys. But the overarching similarity is the love for 80s Rock music, and the common heroes most of us share – with the likes of Whitesnake, Van Halen, Motley Crüe, and Bon Jovi – and some influences from Bands like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy or – of course – great DIO as well. Not forgetting Ozzy and Black Sabbath – or some of the treasures of the eighties like White Lion, Great White, Europe, Kiss, the list could go on forever, but you get the idea.

3) Now, regarding the album, is there any specific reason for having Sunset BLVD as the title?
The sound produces a certain vibe that we all love. It sounds like this is a great experience and adventure all in one. It sounds like all your dreams can come true. And it has this positive sound to it as well. And last but not least – what better place to refer to than Los Angeles when it comes to 80s music?
4) Can you take us through the writing period of this album in terms of the lyrics and music?
Just as our previous album, “Pandoras Box,” did, this album grew slowly but at a steady pace. As the song ideas come together with lyrics and little hook lines, the overall theme of the album becomes clearer. For the lyrics, we essentially weren’t as edgy as we used to be with the first album, but we felt this was more fitting to the upbeat feel we wanted to produce and provide with the album. But if you listen closely to the album, we’re pretty sure you will recognize a lot of hints or mentions of songs and bands of the decade – this is something we absolutely love, hiding small hints within our songs – either in terms of hook lines and melodies, for the song itself or for the lyrics. 5) Considering that it is a five-piece band with two guitars, a keyboard, bass, and drums, did you record the album entirely with the full band, or were individual parts tracked separately?
Funny enough there’s not one song we recorded as an entire band. We kind of found our rhythm in terms of the production process, and it works out best for us to record in sequences, one instrument at a time. In terms of vocals, we did some sessions together, which is always more fun. There is no question about it. But overall, it works best to prepare for the recording session, have your parts either prepared or at least memorized what you want to bring to the song – and then it’s off to the recording.
6) My final question will be, what’s next for Cherry Bomb? A grand tour, or starting with the works for the next album already?
Unfortunately, it’s not a grand tour the way we all would wish for, but we’re pretty caught up with gigs all over Germany within the next few weeks and months to come. So it is an excellent chance for everyone to get a feel for what Cherry Bomb is all about – Live experience always beats the record. That’s all we can say!
