Watch the surreal skies swirl under the spell of Pisgah. You’re experiencing a certain excellence reached through singer-songwriter mastery-only because music has become her nucleus since 2015. 10 years is not a long time to have that finesse in song structure and lyrical prowess, but some souls just need realignment. Brittney Jenkins is splendid in her solo project as this moniker. This album is called Faultlines.
Following the fault
Think of us to be made of cracks and eventual healing of the same. As the album begins with Cumulonimbus, you can hear lush melodies ring out. The percussion is quicker than a heartbeat, but attempts to have a peppier release. Like Lizzy McAlpine or Boygenius, she has understood how to tell a story without sacrificing the plot line. It takes great maturity to dive into the depth of the soul and asks the most complex questions. Pisgah does this with detail and an understanding of the mind that melts into the melody.

We were dreaming through the skies. Noe we’re grounded for the next song, Favor. This is more deliberate in its attack through the instruments, chord progressions being curt, yet expressive. Pisgah gets comfortable in the lower register of vocals, as unique melodic lines grace the chorus. It’s a refreshing composition, quite rare in how it’s been executed as well. With the minimal chord progression, the drums stand out on level with the vocals for this interesting play by play.
An essence that runs through
As her first album after 2022, you can hear a lot of growth in the type of compositions she makes. Call Louder for Me When You Call was a great collection, and showed quite a rebellious edge. So when I reel you back to Bone to Pick, you can see bold predicaments coming through much gentler instrumental parts. Addressing deeper aspects with 5ft2, Pisgah makes the journey as unpredictable and interesting as a journal through the years. She creates a purposeful level of difference through her melodic strings and the chords that are buzzing.
Splintering is a darker pop number that you might have to delve into. A minor chord progression opens the song, as Brittney bares the rougher edges I spoke about. It almost seems like a Nine Inch Nails song, having that darker setting-but with a glowing golden halo of hope around it. These are the kind of actual contours that colour a track with purpose. Bend to Break has a fantastic opening and chord progression, elevated by the choice of tone and ambience created. Harmonics push this to another pedestal in itself to make it one of my favourite, most balanced songs on the album.
Out of the Gate and Song for Jason Molina can be called the closers of the album. They reverberate with a thrilling storyline, and stellar songwriting that sets Pisgah apart from a machine generated pop production. Shaped to become the mountain that holds the faultlines, in place:

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
