The New Citizen Kane Crafts Ethereal Electro-Pop Universe in ‘The Tales Of Morpheus‘

The New Citizen Kane is Kane Luke’s dance music project, launched after leaving Milan’s Fuorifase Records in 2009. Following early success with 2008’s club hit “Don’t Feel No Shame” (#6 on Beatport), supported by Mark Knight and Pete Tong, Luke relocated to London to create a project merging music, fashion, and visual arts. His 2014 album “It’s Not Science… It’s A Feeling” features singles like “White Night” (180,000 YouTube views in its first week) and “Remedy” (remixed by Rob Made, Super Stylers, and Sebastiàn Parbo). Through global collaborations, TNCK continues to evolve, building on Luke’s background in theatre, modeling, and music production.

The New Citizen Kane has unleashed “The Tales Of Morpheus,” an ambitious 21-track album that demonstrates his artistic vision.

The journey begins with the trippy, anthemic powerhouse “Morpheus In The Club.” The track commands attention with its robotic vocal treatment layered over industrial beats and pulsating bass lines. What really sets this opener apart is the way those easy-breezy, addictive synths shimmer throughout the production, creating a grand and immersive atmosphere that sets the tone for what’s to come.

“Killer Charisma” by The New Citizen Kane shifts the energy, introducing a more summery, pop-influenced vibe that’s impossible to resist. It’s like being transported to the perfect summer party with your closest friends, where everyone’s just letting loose and living in the moment. The male vocals here are particularly outstanding, delivering an infectious performance that keeps you coming back for more.

“Lump In Your Throat” opens with velvety, intensely passionate vocals that set an intimate tone before gradually building momentum. The production is masterful – easy-on-the-ear synths interweave with peppy beats that make movement irresistible. But it’s the emotional depth that really stands out here. The song brilliantly captures that universal struggle of unspoken feelings in complicated relationships. Through lyrics about mixed signals (“you blow hot then you’re blowing cold”) and internal battles with pride and hesitation, The New Citizen Kane perfectly encapsulates that frustrating moment when words get stuck: “choking on these words, it just won’t come out.” The urgency of taking chances and overcoming fear resonates throughout, making this track both relatable and compelling.

“Could Have Been” by The New Citizen Kane shifts into a more introspective space, featuring hushed, emotive vocals over understated synths and lo-fi beats. The chorus is pure cinematic euphoria – the kind that has you singing along before you even realize it. This track is a masterclass in nostalgic storytelling, exploring the bittersweet territory of past relationships and lingering possibilities. The way it captures those unexpected moments when an ex’s name triggers an avalanche of memories is particularly poignant. Through vivid details like highway drives and remembered conversations, the song taps into that universal experience of wondering, “Do you ever think of me and wonder what could have been?” The result is a deeply moving exploration of love’s aftermath and the questions that remain.

“Adonis & Aphrodite” emerges as another standout track, merging eclectic guitar work, robotic elements, and masterfully crafted bass beats to create an entrancing dance atmosphere. The production brilliantly matches the song’s mystical narrative, where mythological references to Silver Moon and Aphrodite dance among themes of fading memories and lost love. It’s a dreamy, poetic journey that uses its sonic landscape to enhance the story of things slipping away – whether they’re memories, time, or love itself. The track manages to be both danceable and deeply contemplative, a rare combination that The New Citizen Kane executes perfectly.

The album by The New Citizen Kane closes with “Morpheus (Made Of Dreams),” a beautiful conclusion that begins in serene territory with calming riffs and synths that inspire gentle swaying. There’s an undeniable spiritual quality to the production that sets it apart. But what makes this closer truly special is its eventual transformation into something more uplifting – like reaching the end of a dark tunnel to find light flooding in. This emotional pivot is incredibly powerful, warming hearts and lifting spirits. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a cosmic dreamer, wandering through storms and moonlight, riding on breezes, surrounded by “oceans, starlight, silver, and thorn.” The recurring “life is fine” chorus serves as a comforting mantra, while references to Morpheus tie everything back to the album’s mythological themes. It’s a masterful way to bring this journey to a close, leaving listeners with a sense of peace and wonder.
