Sir Winston-Fashion is a drug remix

Sir Winston brings us bloghaus energy with a remix of his hit single, “Fashion is a drug”

Sir Winston is an electronic music icon, and there’s no doubt about it. From making tracks that are regular at club parties to having featured music with some of the most recognizable brands, there is a tidal wave he can generate. This is felt from the moment you press play on his music. This is a remix of the song, Fashion is a drug. We, at Sinusoidal, are extremely pleased to feature this brilliant artist.

You’ve given Fashion is a drug a refreshing take with this remix. What was going on during the composition to release this exhilarating piece?

I wanted this one to be wild – chaos and mayhem! The synth part is really dirty and has mad movement.

A song heard all over the world

Some of your songs will be recognised by listeners if they have paid attention to the fashion campaigns they have been used in. How did that feel, to have your music recognised at that scale?

I love the association between fashion and music. Sir Winston tracks have featured in a lot of fashion campaigns including Victoria’s Secret, Nike and Vogue. The clips for these campaigns were very well directed – really cool. I was thrilled.

You can hear the waves and elements as recognizable fractions of a complete puzzle. Sir Winston wastes no time, there is no build up to a song like this. The vocals come in exactly as timed, as though to draw parallels between the world of fashion and music. Both, have extremely massive footprints in our society, and Sir Winston is able to draw parallels with ease. His idiosyncratic style is something he has developed with decades of experience and experimentation. There is a lot of heart in what is written, played and developed to create this overarching theme of these art forms. Invariably, you would have heard his music being played in fashion shows all over the globe. That is what makes a signature experience, thorough music.

Learning through the studio

How did you design the drop for Fashion is a drug to be so catchy and punchy?

We messed around with it for a while. The vibe in the studio was really fun. They were great sessions working on this track. The energy in this track is extreme.

Clearly, people like to party to the kind of music you make. What have you found to be the most dependable groove to instantly connect with the audience?

Whatever works with the song really. I don’t have any preconceived notions. It just has to be tough and move.

Tell us about the recording process of Démons à Combattre.

I wrote the tracks whilst living in Paris last year – so there is a French theme to the EP. I was exploring the concepts of temptation, forbidden fruits, loss and addiction. Démons à Combattre means Demons to Fight. I found Paris to be a very inspiring place to be creative. Once back in New York I recorded the EP with Abe Seiferth at Transmitter Studios in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I’d been rediscovering Bloghaus & Electroclash era music so the EP became a throwback to that genre.

Sir Winston and his inspirations

Who are some sources of inspiration to this style you have developed with such creativity? Any unlikely sources people would never be able to guess?

There were a lot of artists from the Bloghaus era that I was into and loved rediscovering. I’ve always been a big fan of LCD Soundsystem, MGMT, Justice & music from New York like The Strokes and Sleigh Bells. Concept albums have always appealed to me too. I like themes with a real story to it. My favorite track on the EP is Perfectly Numb. It drives really well, I hear a lot of influences in there from New Order to Chemical Brothers. Lyrically the tracks have sexy connotations. Paris is a very sexy place and heavily inspired the EP. There is also electroclash elements to the EP and I’ve always felt that to be a very sexy sound.

What is next for Sir Winston? More DJ shows or perhaps even a full length album on the way?

I’m currently in Australia getting ready to DJ all summer here, then back into New York to start on a new release for 2024.

In this interview with him, we have learnt a lot about his styles and experiences, and how he puts together his music. It can be said with impunity that this is a person who will take charge of this genre and elevate it to the greatest heights. Listen to his song here and follow Sir Winston for more!

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
