Roisin O’Hagan is an Essex-based singer-songwriter blending pop, rock, and storytelling elements — and lately, she’s been making waves, kicking off what is an exciting year for her with the release of her latest single, “Midnight Indigo” — keep reading for my thoughts!
After having dabbled in country pop elements, Roisin makes a bit of a left turn into more of a soul/RnB sound blended with rock and electronic elements on”Midnight Indigo”. As is the case with her releases, her vocals are easily the centrepiece of “Midnight Indigo”, with apt and smart use of vocal layers throughout the track that yield it a layer of atmosphere and dimensionality right from the start of the song. Couple that with the tree sounding drums that punctuate the whole track, and the whole song chugs along smoothly, retaining its flavour from start to finish.

The energy on “Midnight Indigo” is also worth appreciating, with excellent balance throughout the song between the verses and the infectious chorus and hooks — and when the bridge arrives, the gentle strings serve to bring the sound of the track full circle, and do so quite elegantly.
The production on “Midnight Indigo” remains a beautiful, soulful RnB/pop rock affair with plenty of electronic elements, effortlessly retaining the 2020s sound and giving it her own twist, and I’m glad to report that the execution really does shine here. Couple that with a tight mix and master with great creative influence in the mix process, and you have a full bodied, warm and welcoming sound waiting for you every time you crack this song on the speakers.
All in all, “Midnight Indigo”, by Roisin O’Hagan: A polished, soulful pop rock number with some tasteful RnB and pop influences that make for an entertaining listen from start to finish. Take a listen to the track here!
