Everything But The Everything (AKA Izzy the Gent) is really familiar with how the music scene works. Having worked as an established concert promoter, musician who plays bass, songwriter, and producer, it’s safe to say he knows what works and what doesn’t. His latest single, Denials, is quite resonant of the psychedelic, garage, desert-wave, synth-pop that we associate with artists like Pond or Tame Impala. With the featured vocals of Tobias Hawkins (Founding member of Counting Crows), Everything But The Everything has created a song that gets you grooving with your body and your mind. Denials really demonstrates every quality that Izzy the Gent has to offer in his experienced wisdom. Groovy basslines met with high production valued beats and psychedelic melodies are just the liminal level. His extensive knowledge comes in the nuanced sounds that are EQ’d to not really stand out, but your brain registers it similar to howMGMT or even Fleetwood Mac make you feel. I feel like the ominous vocals that Tobias Hawkins really adds a feature of insecurity in the listener, but adds so much depth to the track.
