UnderwaterSun is an emerging artist from Birmingham. Harry Aidan Sampson, the man behind the project is a DIY Bedroom producer and singer-songwriter.
UnderwaterSun get its sound inspiration from artists like Rex Orange County and Dayglow who pioneered the genre of Bedroom Pop. Sampson adds his uniquely British sound that gives his music a very familiar feeling. The Kooks come to mind whilst listening to tracks like Tears for Souvenirs. The aesthetic that Sampson goes for is purely devoted to the DIY Bedroom Pop aesthetic accompanied by his beautiful writing and high value production. UnderwaterSun produces, writes, mixes and masters all his tracks on his own, giving it the most authentic feel that he can possibly create.
Tears for Souvenirs is a track that is so quintessentially Bedroom Pop that you can almost picture Sampson creating the track in his bedroom. The groove of the bass is really steeped well into the track, guiding the vocals and percussions towards a very mellow melody. Sampson’s vocals fit perfectly onto the track, just sort of soothing you while you listen to it and experience the journey. The atmosphere that he manages to create with his vocals and this lovely light percussive instrument really strikes a nerve with the listener. It’s just an atmosphere that’s ideal for any mood that you’re in.
I highly rate Tears for Souvenirs and would recommend fans of Mild Orange, Mac DeMarco and Rex Orange County give UnderwaterSun a try. You won’t be disappointed!
