London-based singer-songwriter Freya Magee continues to establish herself as one of the most promising new voices in indie music. Born in Melbourne, with roots in Northern Ireland, Magee relocated to London to pursue her craft. Her debut single Duplicity earlier this year introduced her introspective, poetic style, drawing comparisons to Phoebe Bridgers and Holly Humberstone. Now, she has released her second single, Forget Yourself Not, on September 26, 2025. The track pushes her sound into a more pop-rock, soft-rock direction while retaining the vulnerability and lyrical sharpness that define her work. Currently, she is working on her debut EP.

The track is built on lyrical detail and momentum. The opening lyrics recall the ache of being forgotten by someone drowning in their own excess: “You couldn’t remember much from the first time we met. I had to tell you all the things that you said.” Magee positions the song less as a breakup anthem and more as an act of observation, watching someone stagnate, unable to change: “It’s like every morning is a blank slate. But your burnt hand’s reaching for the same flame.”
Furthermore, what makes the song compelling is its relentlessness. The verses arrive in rapid succession, almost rapped, giving no space for reflection until the chorus detonates: “So don’t mind me, I won’t give too much of myself. To someone who forgets themselves… Forget yourself not.” The repetition of that phrase transforms it into both mantra and accusation, underlining the song’s central theme.

Melodically, the track lets the lyrics dominate before instruments surge in during the chorus with vibrant soft pop-rock. This creates contrast, keeping the verses stripped and biting while the refrain explodes with sound. By the end, the song builds relentlessly before fading into bittersweet resignation with the closing lines: “I hope you remember how tall you could grow… ’cause I can’t remember for us both.”
Finally, Magee’s artistry lies in that tension—compassion entwined with critique, tenderness edged with steel. Forget Yourself Not feels like autumn embodied: leaves falling, endings inevitable, yet growth quietly promised beneath the soil.
