‘Chimera’ by LunaRover is an expansive synth-pop track that delves into the ephemeral and dynamic nature of love. It takes us through distant mood that ramps up, building with percussion, synth and horn melodies under almost detached vocals.
The track feels numb, as though it’s making observations about motions that are far away, maybe underwater or in space.

‘Chimera’: Love Now Far
‘Chimera’ feels like it orbits around the listener, with its synths creating this expansive mood that finds it in a vacuum. Our narrator seems to be at this point where the motions of life seem to run circles around them, but they’re still stuck in a headspace that takes from them.
The lyrics seem to reminisce about a distant love, an idea or emotion that feels like its taken too much. “…I fell in-love with the idea of you…”.
‘Chimera’ is a ramping build that feels numb and closed off. Its synths create an expansive space that allows the track’s percussion to slowly build and layer in a space for its intensity. The percussion moves from a subtle thump to a pointed, defined rhythm.
This intensity doesn’t quiet reach a peak, but rather supports a new horn melody a third of the way in. This melody even plays with the vocal melody, echoing and matching the lines in a duet that supports & highlights that distant tone.
All in all, ‘Chimera’ by LunaRover is a solid synth-pop song that feels light and almost weightless. Its lyrics deal with a weight that feels like its far, with a mood that captures the nuances of love as we move on from it.
The song makes for a chill, almost trippy listen.
