‘war’ by Azæryil is a Calm Alternative Track that Takes on Bright Light and Optimism

The song ‘war’ by Azæryil is a calm, acoustic guitar-led alternative track that takes on calm dejection in the face of moving optimism. Its soundscape seems to mimic the calming sound of water-droplets, that seem to drip down slow. This building into an immense pool of swelling emotion with the silent roar of angst.

The song seems to be a dialogue between our narrator and someone older they seem to reverie. The soundscape feels dulset yet impassioned, with low swells highlighting key moments of what feels like full-hearted emotion.

‘war’: Calm in Fight

Our narrator on ‘war’ seems to be fighting their own dejection, using their older mentor figure as a sort of sounding board and starting-off point. “…What are your plans?…”, the mentor asks with calm, launching our narrator into a spiel of sorts.

“…There’s war..! I don’t want to do this anymore…” come the impassioned plea. Our narrator seems too tired to go on. The calm on the song attempts to highlight this emotion while attempting to lull it with surety and calm.

This dialogue on The song ‘war’ by Azæryil forms the song’s main tension, allowing the song to feel calm but a bit dynamic. This with short swells of emotion that seems to highlight the song’s ebb, flow and tone.

The song is an engaging, immersive track. This with its subtle swells and dynamic emotions. Strong, with a quiet and calm strength. Moving, whole and a bit cathartic.

On ‘war’ and Songwriting Process

1. Congratulations on the release of ‘war’, how has the build-up to the song’s release felt?

It’s been thrilling, feels just amazing to be back at it and creating. Nerve wracking as well but overall just a positive experience. I’m glad I get to share my art with whoever will listen.

2. What inspired the song? Could you walk us through the process of making it?

For sure, I wrote this in honor of my late grandfather. It took a while to finish it. There was a lot of pain associated with it. I don’t like to outwardly share much so this was definitely an expression of my grief.

3. Could you tell us about your songwriting process in general?

Interesting question, I think it varies for sure. Typically I have an idea in mind for a theme. I’ll let that theme dictate the process, sometimes the lyrics and melody come first, other times the production carries me through. Whatever is best for the song I follow. That’s what’s most important for me.

4. Your music explores themes of love, loss and self-discovery. What gravitates you towards those themes?

I think those are all part of the human condition. They’re some of the things that shape our life the most. I’m a fan of change, it can be a hard thing to have a shift, but a necessary one. Those themes are gateways to change.

On Azæryil: Influences, Inspiration & A Message for Listeners and Aspiring Artists

5. Could you tell us about your start as an artist?

It’s hard to say. I have released music in the past but I feel like this my real beginning. I’m confident, assured. Look back to this interview, to this song. This is just the start. I appreciate you being here.

6. Which artists have influenced your musical style and sound?

There are so many talented people out there that inspire me but to name a few I would say Jon Bellion, Linkin Park, Justin Timberlake, Tame Impala, one republic and so many more in and outside my genre.

7. Do you have a message for your listeners?

I hope you enjoy the song and that it resonates with you in some way. I appreciate every stream, every listen. It means the world to me. Thank you.

8. Lastly, do you have a message for aspiring artists who are on a similar journey as you?

There a lot of people that are going to think you’re crazy or tell you it’s impossible. Whether something is impossible or not is entirely up to you. Life can get in the way and sometimes things are incredibly hard. However, I think there’s incredible value in not giving up. One day that perseverance will be rewarded. Keep moving forward.
