Morsrot are making it in the metal world. A band that originated in Malta and now based in the EDM capital, their breed of metal is meant to last. This year, they became the first-ever Maltese band to represent Malta at Wacken Open Air. History was made, and you get a chance to listen to what they put together for their selection to win Wacken Metal Battle 2025 in Malta. Let’s get right into it, just like the band did.
The order of the set was:
1 The Bund
2 Centrefold
3 Do Us Part
4 In My Own Skin.
The Bund is what they opened with, which has a memorable melodic line with raging, disgruntled vocals. Might remind you of the great Mastodon in the album Leviathan. From the same double A side, they move on to Centrefold. Now we’re in the hottest part of the attack, merging their cultural aspects with the perfection they have found in metal. I enjoy their production quality, keeping that raw feel while chiselling in their sound with the right kind of impact.
Primrose Path is their latest single, added to this playlist, because why not. Let’s not leave anything awesome out. A track that opens soft and goes into a barrage of classic thrash metal proportions, this is Morsrot at their most primal as well. They use space very well, designing melodies that are soft to show the textures. A sudden attack can get you caught off guard. They play to their strengths in their compositions, balancing powerful attacks with gentle breaks.
Metal, in dedicated balance
Continuing next with Do Us Part, you are handed the metal manic zeal once more. There is a heat that you cannot escape in their music. While being incredibly dynamic, they are able to craft their niche when they have their thrash/doom impacts. Morsrot are truly a force to behold, and this would have been amazing to experience live. No wonder they won the contest with this kind of energy.
A performance to behold
If you get the chance, watch their live performance on Magentamusik. They have absolutely smashed it-and their fire as a fresh band really shows. They close the Metal Battle set with In My Own Skin. Harrowing yet complex and lethal, this is one of their most identifiable melodies. While having the sinister tone, they are able to merge an intense creation while having everyone’s talent showcased.
