The legendary singer-songwriter from the United States of America, Beyoncé has won the Album of the Year title at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards held on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles for her album Cowboy Carter. The superstar singer is by far the most awarded and nominated artist in the history of the Grammy Awards, and she was up for the same category of awards four times before and, finally, this year she received the prestigious award.
Beyoncé became the first Black woman to win the Album of the Year title in the 21st century. Lauryn Hill last won the award 26 years ago, in 1999, for her debut solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Before her, Whitney Houston and Natalie Cole won the same title in 1994 and 1992, respectively. So, that technically makes Beyoncé the only fourth Black Woman to secure the Album of the Year award at the Grammys Awards.
While the members of the Los Angeles Fire Department presented the prestigious Album of the Year award to Beyoncé, Taylor Swift presented her the award for the Best Country Album, thereby making her the first Black woman ever to grab the winning title in this category. In her speech, the superstar dedicated her prize to Linda Martell, the legendary performer who was the first Black woman to play the Grand Ole Opry.
