Apple Lawyers Serve Lawsuit to ‘Parasitic’ App for Misusing YouTube API

After the removal of the Musi App by Apple from its App Store, the two companies have engaged in a legal battle since the filing of a lawsuit by the developers of Musi in terms of ‘breach of contract’ and putting forth their ask from Apple to reinstate the app to the App Store. In response to this lawsuit, Apple‘s lawyers requested the court to deny the Musi developers’ request for a preliminary injunction to avoid the legal pressure of having to allow the Musi App back into the App Store.

Furthermore, the Apple lawyers have given clear justification for this, ensuring that removing the Musi App is not an action out of a hasty decision, thereby citing proper evidence of Musi and YouTube’s lack of interaction. So, in precise terms, the Musi App, by nature, serves as some layer over YouTube content and displays its ads while blocking YouTube’s original ones. Due to this, YouTube has reached out to Musi several times regarding the app’s nature, and it has gained immense support from industry groups IFPI and NMPA in its efforts to witness the removal of the Musi App from the App Store.

According to the Musi App‘s original lawsuit, they state that they are facing a massive decrease in their customer base since Apple‘s action of removing the app from its only viable distribution platform, thereby threatening the company’s survival. The argument by Apple‘s lawyers happens to be the fact that Apple’s developer program terms allow it to delist any apps “at any time, with or without cause.”

Musi has yet to respond to the new filing, though Musi users currently appear to be seeking alternatives to this app.
