Metal Music: The Heavy Sound of Power and Precision

Seen commonly as a darker, more ominous and heavier version of rock, metal emerged in the late 1960s and early 70s. The aggression was more apparent, stronger and trademarked with thunderous guitar riffs, fast-paced drumming, and intense vocals. Though there are more than 120 sub-genres or so, metal branches commonly into subgenres like heavy metal, death metal, black metal, and progressive metal.

Pioneers like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and Metallica helped define metal’s raw power and theatrical flair. Its boundaries are ever-changing, with bands of the present extending it to different genre fusions as well. Many have classical, folk and acoustic elements as well.

Known for its loyal global fanbase, metal music often explores themes of mythology, existentialism, and social commentary. It is known to be intellectually rich as it is sonically powerful.
