Phoenix – Fleck Projector | Desolating Psychedelia

“If theres nothing more to life than suffering then what’s the point?” Pessimism at its peak and is the signature of psychedelic, alt rock producer Jason Pritchett. Desolating yet psychedelic music that is perfect to sit in the fields, gazing into nothing.

Jason Pritchett is a jack of all trades but surprisingly a master of all. To be able to put together all this by himself is nothing short of amazing. Pritchett writes, records, performs and co-produces all the project’s music with the exception of drums. Kelli Scott of Failure is the drummer for Fleck Projector making it a duo of sorts.

Phoenix is like a never-ending abyss of sadness and reasoning with the meaning of life. The lyrics just like the name suggests take you through a journey of rebirth. Just like the phoenix, the track takes you through the abyss of sadness, all the while looking up, hoping, praying, to find your way back up toward the light.

The lyrics to Phoenix are extremely deep and become the fundamental component to Pritchetts style of psychedelic alt rock. There are some complex melodies throughout the track but what stands out are the little things. Ear candy that just pops up here and there to reinforce the fact that Pritchett makes psychedelic music. The album art personifies the genre that Fleck Prjector seems to fit into.

Overall, a tight single that I really enjoyed, Phoenix is a raw uncut gem that took some digging to find but is really worth it. Pritchett pulls off the difficult feat of numbing the listener with quality, of obscuring his personality with his craft. His recordings are masterful, and his arrangements are more complex than those of (many of) his peers. If what Fleck Projector does is easy, everyone would sound as good as he does.
