Black Mirrors is the latest release from the Banquets, an alternative English artist trio with a very contemporary approach to music-making. The track and header to an album of the same name is a folk-y song with a synth-pop melody and rock-and-roll electric guitar, that features a drastic change of pace in the middle allowing for a further inset of musical influences that makes this song feel like a mellow and calculated yet unpredictable fever dream. Narratively perfect, it is a song about disconnection and dissociating as a response to an unfamiliar and uncomfortable situation, and makes use of the fusion of styles in conveying the transitional and disjointed nature of the experience. Having consistently released tracks every few months over the last two years, you can make sure they’re coming out with some stuff soon as well.
