NickyP is an Oxnard-based Hip Hop artist who creates brilliant futuristic music. After the success he found in his last album, Biologics, Nicky is back with another solid album entitled ProBioTics.
The album starts with the opening track Keep It Live, featuring Jhue. The track is a brilliant opener for ProBioTics as it sets the tone for the album. NickyP hits his flow and bars with such craftsmanship that it’s almost seamless. The beats and groove of the track keep you engaged. Hoopin’ In The Bubble keeps the tempo up as Nicky collaborates with Cali Meech. The track hits out at mumble rap and other rappers who seem to be going with the flow. The production work on the album sees a huge upgrade from Biologics.
NickyP tends to find the right amount of upbeat and mellow to fill out his tracks. Drip Don’t Dry is a really good example of this as Nicky slows things down to create an almost R&B track. The synths and beats are as hard as ever, while Nicky’s vocals cut cleanly through with some really nice ad-libs thrown in. The whole track has me bobbing along, It sounds like the kind of track you would play in the club or even in your car on a nice long drive. You Know We Go follows a similar rhythm. I love how the track is much slower, but the flow that NickyP manages to hit with his brilliant pace is absolutely admirable. It reminds me of old school rap with some distinctly new techniques.
I think what I find most interesting about NickyP is his ability to mess around with vocal editing. It’s almost Skrillex-like to be that bold. Beep Beep shows us the range in NickyP’s vocal work. Hitting slow bars and melodious interludes, it’s a showcase in itself. I think Beep Beep is my favourite track off of the album. Nicky does such a brilliant job to create a track that goes hard and slow, almost going into the R&B sphere as he does every now and then.
When we move into Coming Home, it shows Nicky’s softer side where he starts singing about family and Coming Home. His ability to show such maturity in his lyrics, paired with his brilliant production work is a testament to his humility. The track has interesting synth work that carries the track spatially as well as temporally. The backing vocals are not overwhelming, instead, they create a nice echo effect.
Headbangers Interlude is a refreshing bit that seems experimental but fits in with the album so well. The instrumental beat is so experimental with so much foley to break in the percussions. However, NickyP does such a brilliant job to navigate his flow through the track. There doesn’t seem to be a repetitive rhythm to the track which makes it seem almost like a freestyle, but that is what makes it even better!
Talking about On One. This track seems to sow things back down again. Nicky keeps his delightful flow going hard. This track seems the most commercially viable to me. I can definitely picture this track blowing up on TikTok or IG Reels. NickyP talks about a bunch of different things that seem to showcase what life is like for someone making it in their own rights. With a brilliant hook, On One is an extremely catchy track.
I find NickyP’s music to be absolute headbangers that deserve the hype that the man gives himself. Additionally, Nicky deserves more streamers, so what are you waiting for?
