Meet 26-year-old hip-hop writer and producer, Zach Trybula, a.k.a Lil Zib, whose dynamic and organic rap verses, coupled with a versatile flow and remarkable lyrical wit, have left an indelible mark on the hip-hop scene of the Chicago Metropolitan Area. Drawing inspiration from icons like Mac Miller, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem, Trybula skillfully narrates the intricacies of his life through music, transcending clichés to deliver a refreshing take that extends beyond tales of romance and wealth. On his latest single, “One Day”, keep reading for my thoughts about how he brings his style to the fore.
From the opening seconds of the song, it is fairly obvious that Zak does not want to stick to conventional methods, instead, adopting a half-sung, half-wrapped take on his verses. The beat is catchy, adopting playful instruments that create quite a bounce in the mix, and waft around in the stereo sphere. The melody set in the beat is also quite upbeat and conveys tones of positivity, which is further ratified by Zach’s lyricism.

The rapping in the song is largely melody-based, with smart use of ad-libs. Zach exhibits great breath control as he weaves verses and stories with multi-syllable and multi-line segments with ease, while the beat effortlessly develops the energy dynamic in the background. The incorporation of such a catchy hook also contributes significantly to the infectious, earworm-like quality of the song.

The percussion also serves to keep the track swimming along smoothly, with the slight crunch on the kicks, as well as the low, deep-hitting bass sections. Couple that with a choppy, proud snare and the triplet bounces in the hi-hats, and you have yourself quite a treat to be listening to, which is wrapped up quite beautifully by the mix, which retains a lot of power and loudness throughout the song, bringing all the elements of the production together quite seamlessly.
All in all, “One Day”, by Lil Zib: certified banger that’ll have you tapping your feet and matching flows like you’re yourself in the studio. Give it a listen here:
