Groundstate – Floating Away | Green Fire

Cleveland, Ohio alt metallers Groundstate has crafted a heavy moody rock song with Floating Away that will capture our ears and hearts. Aidan and Connor Smith, two brothers from Bay Village, Ohio, a tiny suburb northeast of Cleveland, founded the band in the winter of 2014.

While the usage of the term post-grunge is controversial, the song’s sound encapsulates the heavier end of that alternative rock sound of 90s American bands. That sonic style is alive and kicking and has an immortal fee to it. Producer Jim Wirt who has worked with Incubus, Hoobastank, and Fiona Apple is producing their upcoming third album.

Groundstate commences the song with drone-like riffs with the fuzzy trebly guitars set to a catchy drum fill. The performances are raw and emotive, perfectly capturing the moody and introspective lyrics of the song. The vocals are a perfect match for the heavy and atmospheric instrumentation, creating a sound that is both powerful and moving. The song’s chorus is particularly memorable, with soaring vocals and a driving beat that is sure to get stuck in your head. The guitar riffs are heavy and impactful, driving the song’s moody atmosphere. The drums provide a solid foundation for the song and the fills are expertly executed, adding to the overall energy of the track.

Floating Away is a powerful and emotive song that showcases their talents as songwriters and musicians. It’s a great example of the band’s ability to create heavy and atmospheric music that is both accessible and meaningful. With the upcoming release of their third album, it’s clear that Groundstate is a rising band to watch in the alternative rock scene.
