Thrillkiller – Dirty Diana | Neon Fire

A synthwave rock reimagining of Dirty Diane by Baltimore innovative rock act Thrillkiller is all we need to hear at the end of the year. The Maryland band fuses rock, metal, and pop to have their unique concoction of power packed music with infinite groove and catchiness. The band returns with this electrifying tribute after their last 2020 release Digital Desperado.

Rob Bradley from the band Aries who has played with the likes of prog metal legends Symphony X and Metal Church is the founder of the band. The current lineup consists of Bradley on vocals, Sebastian Ochoa on guitar, Robbie Whiplash on drums, and Daniel Webb on bass.

The song commences with the gritty guitar riffs replaced by some ethereal synths and keys. The tone of the synths is stunning and lovely consisting of a mix of retro and modern synthwave sound. Vocals which hold a torch and pay fitting tribute to MJ while conveying a unique individuality and flavour tear through the mix. Synth guitar tone then replicates the legendary chorus riff with distinct diction and energy in the vocals. Stunning work by Thrillkiller!

The original rhythm guitar parts were played by legendary session guitarists Paul Jackson Jr. and Dave Williams, the solo was by Steve Stevens. Here guitarist Ochoa make the song their own with their signature synth inspired tone and playing style. A novel guitar solo is definitely a great addition to the song.

Thrillkiller performs an energetic synthwave rock cover of the classic number from Bad with their own personality. A fitting homage to the past with a sound looking towards the future.
