One and a half Dog – Catch 22 | Rock Maze

Norwegian alternative rock band One and a half Dog (OAAHD) present us with their mesmerizing latest single Catch 22. Based out of Trondheim, Norway, the five piece act understand themselves as a rock band in the broadest sense.

Influenced by classic heavy acts like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Tool, they combine their roots into the living musical energy. The result is something that sounds uniquely their own in the tradition of innovative heavy rock. The song is just five minutes in length and blows you away with the sheer magnitude of compositional vision and performance virtuosity.

The song begins with the prominent loud thuds of the kick drum and light cymbal hits and synths. Then enter the clean guitar arpeggiated rhythm accompaniment. Vocal with the right amount of emotion, energy, and technique seep in. As the verses proceed, the distorted guitars are added to the arrangement. Midway through the song the energy builds up and exerts itself out. With passionate vocals and the right amount of riffing, the tension is well managed musically.

At the three minute mark, we get a solo and riff section that acts as a bridge to the final round of the chorus. And the song concludes with a hypnotic instrumental guitar outro section. Bass lines on the song are prominent and coupled with some tight drumming form a solid rhythmic foundation for this progressive heavy rock track. One and a half Dog have created a musical sculpture that you get hooked on.

It is great to know that One and a half Dog which started in 2017 has come such a long way and they intend to release singles with consistency and they intend to eventually release their album. Catch 22 is an enchanting alternative hard rock song with cerebral progressive elements that will not fail to impress you.
