My Giddy Aunt – All Things Come In Time

The curly-haired indie trio, My Giddy Aunt from Melbourne, Australia makes songs straight from the heart and All Things Come In Time is no exception. As they weave melodies of magical realities, listening to their music feels surreal. So if you want to be part of a breezy euphonic dream sequence, this album is for you. With Rory Vagg on vocals, Luke Perry on the guitar and Oceane Federow on the bass, the outfit makes eccentricity sound simple.

The album opens with a mellow track, Acceptance. It is made up of soothing acoustics that ooze with warmth and sway like a breeze. The weightless baritones and dancing melodies weave a minimalistic euphony that wants for nothing. Towards the end, a percussive drum ascent drives the energy of the guitar and vocals to a melodic salvation, overflowing with emotions and filling up with epiphanies.

You Lost reigns with fuzzy synths, tight basslines, and a steady beat. They remain constant, resounding throughout the track as smooth baritone vocals nudge you in the direction of grace. Soft beeping synth harmonies set up for the flavors of musical and vocal harmonies that blossom across the track. It keeps with the trio’s gradual layering style, as they add and enrich the canvass with beautiful weaves. Twinkling melodies, warm molts of electric guitar, and cascading vocal harmonies coalesce like a dream.

Continuing the indie magic is Sunk, the third track of the album. The pop-rock track is as unpretentious and unassuming as ever. Acoustic strings pop to the drums, as the synths light up the soundscape like fairy lights. Underlying electric guitar tangents bring the subtle rock flavor to the track. Softened vocal harmonies are like refreshing drops of rain. Streaming uninterrupted, the track has smooth and seamless transitions and shows off stellar blends of various instrument textures and styles. Dreamy beyond question, it is reminiscent of rainbows and roses, crushes and candy hearts.

The title track, All Things Come In Time, is enigmatic, to say the least. The lyrics have punk darkness, exuding damp energy. However, it is ensconced in shining melodies and warm vocals. One can detect deep melancholy in the vocals, but that is balanced out by the energy in the drums, and serenading tunes. There’s so much to take in with this track. Its musical details are packed with magic, unfolding a carpet of mirthful nymphs and fairies. A lovely trumpet melody towards the end edges the song to its climax.

Concluding the album, we have Not Mine Anymore. Sparkling melodies, shooting star acoustics, and serenading baritones make up the song for the most part. The placement of these elements and the way they are used to realize the theme of the song is just magnificent. Ethereal vocal harmonies lead the song to its end. Blending the lines of melancholia and nostalgia, that harmonies fold us in an angelic haze, glistening with aurum radiance.
