Aytiwan, Nes Mburu – Ilanga | Hypnotic Afro-House

Producer Nico P works as the label manager of Belgian label DHB and is known for his exquisite melodic house music compositions. Under his new moniker, Aytiwan has devoted all of his upcoming and new productions to afro-beats exclusively. His debut release as Aytiwan is an upbeat melodic EP called “Ilanga” that is inspired by love and positive vibes. The tracks feature the soulful vocals of upcoming artist Nes Mburu, along with other collaborations with veteran producers on the 4-track EP.

Ilanga EP Tracklist

The positive energy of Ilanga can be felt right from the first kick and bass groove that gets the track going. Upbeat and engaging, Nes Mburu’s vocals take centre stage and are doused in a tasteful amount of reverb and delay; very hypnotic and pleasing to the ears if you ask me. The track’s atmospheric soundscape builds up in character as it progresses with some afro-house fillers and somewhat dark melodies. What’s great about Ilanga is the strong dynamic range which almost makes it sound like the track is breathing. It feels very meditative and energetic at the same time, something producer Aytiwan should be very proud of. Clocking at 7:30 minutes, Ilanga is a wholesome melodic track that never gets boring! The super-clean mix helps all the intricately produced elements cut through, and the drops are just fantastic on this one.

The next two tracks on the EP are remixed versions of the same by South African producer Enoo Napa.

Ilanga – Enoo Napa Remix features heavy bass lines and harder beats that are more bouncy and fun to dance to. Enoo Napa showcases his synthesiser performance on this one that add a different colour to the track; perfect for a late-night edit. Trance elements and piano chords add more emotion to the Aytiwan’s composition before the final breakdown and drop; a fantastic remix!

Enoo Napa’s alternative remix of Ilanga has a more deep house-like rhythm where off-beat stabs cut through and offers a different take on the track. It has an opening/closing set vibe to it with its minimal production and lush atmospheric energy. Enoo Napa’s experience as a producer over the years really shows in this remix as he keeps Aytiwan’s original sound alive along with his own elements that spice things up on this one.

The third remix of Ilanga is by Belgian producer Klaudius. He’s known for his gentle productions that slowly build up in energy. On this remix, he introduces the track in a gloomy soundscape that plays behind Nes Mburu’s hypnotic vocal melody. Klaudius keeps the track mostly piano-centric with subtle chords and smooth transitions throughout. With a really satisfying breakdown and drop section, this remix showcases a different take on the original that’s very pleasing to the ears.

The final track is a short version of Ilanga, a radio-edit that’s perfect for your playlists! At just 4:24, it progresses smoothly while keeping the feel of the original composition.

Aytiwan’s collaboration with Nes Mburu, Enoo Napa and Klaudius on this project jump-starts his career as an afro-house DJ brilliantly. The top-level production and masterful mix of the tracks show that he’s one of those producers who really know how to innovate in the space and keep his listeners engaged at the same time!
