There was an age when music was filled with auto tuned robotic voices and sounds that just took the listener on a journey into futuristic alien pubs like you see on Star Wars. I’m sure we can make a new genre out of the music that fits into this description. “Living My Fantasy” is one such track! The name is also appropriate for the theme of this song. poptoken is living his fantasy with this single that just takes you into his robotic world of magic, filled with auto tuned voices and a nice bassline to top it off!
poptoken is a half Russian, half Ukranian artist based in New York, USA. His name is deeper than it sounds. “pop” stands for the pop culture, society, and its movements. “token”stands for tokenization and stereotypical assumptions. A paradoxical statement that seems to be the poptoken’s version of the yin and yang. Neither exists without the other, so harmony is the only solution! Robotic apartheid!
His lyrics are very compelling and repetitive, almost robotic. Poptoken is telling us about how he can do whatever he wants, because he is living his fantasy! If there is something he wants to do, he can just go do it! That’s the who concept behind this track. The style of the music is hypnotic and the lyrics just add to this element, as the listener spirals into the leads and bassline of this melodic pop single!
His voice sounds very raw, even though it has been through a lot of processing, which is the charm of this track. There is this really cool trick that poptoken uses in this track that made me listen twice to realise. Everytime he says “fantasy” or “fantastic” or words rhyming with this, he uses a riser and impact and silences the other layers. It just makes the words that he wants his listeners to hear ‘pop’.
Overall a very entertaining track from a unique genre of music! An ode to the concept of freedom! The freedom to do anything you want and be who or whatever you want!
