X: THC – Say A Prayer

Carving out melodies from the undefined space between darkness and light, New York City’s X: THC (The Human Condition) has released its newest album, Say A Prayer. Mesmerizing and hypnotic beyond imagination, the artist pays homage to New Wave, Blue Eyed Soul, Post Punk, and Electronica. With Michael Nova on vocals and lyrics, Chris Liang on guitars, bass, cello, keyboards, and programming, and Erik Nickerson on lead guitar and drums, the album is a must listen!

Independence Day opens the album with all-feeling synths swirling across the soundscape. Veiled baritone vocals float weightlessly like jellyfish and dissolve into the raging synth echo. A surreal serenity descends on us as the wavering synth patterns ooze into each other to create a beckoning tapestry. With alternating beat tempos, the artist controls the flow of emotions.

Urgent beats announce the entrance of majestic synths and vocals in the next track, The Calling. An acute sense of mystique intensifies as we peel back more and more layers of melody. Muffled sounds of timpani percussion form the base of the track. Fluid tempos and pleasing vocal tangents are used to accentuate the song.

Happier Days starts with sparkling guitar melodies and steady beats. Bass string melodies reflect the vocal timbre. We see properties of soft rock in the bass melody bridge against a filtered synth canvas. Again is the fourth track of the album. Carrying the same mystery and murdoch vibe. Glassy synths and beats introduces us to the song. Lines of ethereal vocals cruise through the song. Despite being gloomy and misty, the vocals have a dazzling quality that pulls the song together. Booming with the silence of the sea bed, the melodies create a musical vacuum around us.

The title track emerges from the gloom with the emotional weight of the violin, glistening and golden. An orchestral warmth relieves us from the enigma of the previous tracks and explodes with life and color. In line with the theme of the album, it is clothed in wisps of celestial melodies and supernatural energy. The smoky vocals rise through the layers of melody and emerge with grace and elegance.

Chi is the next installment of this dream sequence. As we go deeper and deeper into the album, the artist wires the melodies to convey riveting mysteries and engaging strangeness. Appealing absurdism oozes with a promise of immersive experiences and perspectives and the innumerable synth textures become objects of sublime matrimonies.

Invincible is upbeat and unravels quickly. With definite and full melodies and vocals, the song has a firm outline and pattern. Delicious licks of molten guitar melodies blend with luminous synths to create a wondrous soundscape. Endless spells the beginning of the end with its slow and measured pace. The instrumental sports singular beats and periodic drops of synths that rain from the sky. Cool and blue, the track soothes and expands the space in our minds. As the track progresses, molten key melodies evaporate from a bed of continuous and unrelenting drum beats.

The Family Resides is made up of syncopated beats, rippling synths, and a grooving guitar bass. The vocals expand like a spider web, spooky and sublime. La Mer shows off a resonant bassline that cuts through the levity of the synths and dances of the violins. The vocals has a vaporous texture and shadowed by divine harmonies and melodies.
