UK based singer-songwriter and musician Raven Shelley has a dazzling new release Do You Miss Me Yet? After her stunning debut Sink in Solitude earlier this year, Do You Miss Me Yet? is a sureshot banger. Shelley grew up in southern France, reading the classics of English literature like Shakespeare, Thomas Hardy, and P.B. Shelley. Lyrics and poetry having an eternal link, the transition from literature to music was all the natural. In her music, Shelley is inspired by artists like Bob Dylan and Ani DiFranco.
Do You Miss Me Yet? begins with chorus effect drenched and panning jangling guitar chords. Then a string section and piano sprinkling enter with restrained and sentiment filled vocals by Shelley. The song then has a huge change in mood with the chorus as Raven wonderfully vocalizes the emotion soaked lyrics. The song manages to create a surreal aura and sonic signature with an ephemeral arrangement and production.
Indie folk with flair and a fiery tilt is what we get on this song. Melancholy is balanced with affirmative lyricism in this song. Shelley’s vocals aptly express the intentions and motives of the lyrical message. An arrangement that combines the vocal complexity with grace and soothness is neat for such a ballad. There is a contrast in the tone of the lyrical content which voices frustration and anger, However, the song itself executes this expression in a serene and austere arrangement. Do You Miss Me Yet? is a heartfelt song by Raven Shelley which is expressed with power.
