Mark Rosal – Needle in a Haystack

BC-based, Canadian singer-songwriter, Mark Rosal is back with yet another of his feel-good, epiphanic songs, Needle in a Haystack. Since his debut in 2019, the artist has consistently released over 40 songs with an average frequency of 9 songs every year. Influenced by folk artists like Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Leonard Cohen, Van Morrison, and Gordon Lightfoot, Rosal populates his songs with metaphorical revelations as he explores the fabric of life and the idea of self.

Rosal sings of the feeling of abstract incompleteness that comes from being away from one’s love. Like a needle in a haystack, the indescribable feeling escapes discovery and articulation. The only antidote to this glinting void is to be one with your darling.

The song opens with dominant guitar acoustics that flows ruggedly through the landscape of the artist’s vocals. A softer melody runs parallelly lending a lilting dimension to the pop-folk track. Rosal defines the song’s rhythm solely with melodies and vocals with minimal use of percussion.

The song is progressively layered with metallic jingles of the tambourine that cheer on the delightful blends of electric guitar licks and rippling keys. With every curve in the song, we get to witness a multitude of sound and texture infusions blossoming with warmth and light.

Available on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music.
