Brother Swan –  When’s the Last Time | Alternative/Indie Rock

The Los Angeles indie rock trio Brother Swan released the third single from their discography recently called “When’s the Last Time“. Best known for their debut single Good Luck Baby, the trio has amassed a small cult following that embodies the sound of 90s rock. Their sound is reminiscent of classic Alternative/Indie rock bands like Beach Boys and LCD Soundsystem, bringing back the definitive sound of the rock-and-roll era.

Drummer Chris Weisson’s tight rhythm sets the tone for “When’s the Last Time,” which has a very raw, upbeat sound right from the beginning. “When’s the last time you floated off? / When’s the last time you heard it for yourself? / To be drunk on a memory / Hoping you just return to someone else” – Chris Matthews’ laid-back yet strong vocals here narrate a story of optimistic introspection and the simple melodies make this an easy listen. Accompanied by a Ian Stahl’s driving bassline and some attractive harmonies, Matthews’ chorus shines through in all parts of this song; a top-notch composition.

A blend of 90s rock and some modern pop vocal layering gives Brother Swan’s track a unique sound. Featuring big drum fills, effective transitions, and powerful choruses, the trio makes a strong impression with “When’s the Last Time”.

The group’s debut LP, Loom, is coming out soon, and they have already released three all-out rock-and-roll tracks for the public. With a growing fan following from Finland, France, US and Spain, Brother Swan is already making waves in the rock scene worldwide, and I think it’s only a matter of time before they start touring across borders with their songs!
