Splash Downey – Ain’t Fair | Genre Bending

Human beings are creatures that have the potential to do almost anything. Magic, wizardry, science and so much more have been created just from our imagination. For a species with unlimited potential, as individuals we don’t always do justice to this. Then there are people like Splash Downey who just come in make the rest of us look even worse. He is a singer, songwriter, rapper and a really good producer. Downey makes music that makes him a genre bending whirlpool of talent.

Ian Downey is a musician out of Portland with unlimited potential. His versatility is his trump card as he does not have to rely on someone else to express his creative genius. For someone to be able to sing, produce, rap and even story tell the whole song is nothing short of impressive. He is able to effortlessly switch between singing, rap, R&B with some EDM beats, all in one track.

Aint Fair starts off with a really nice violin solo that is complimented by some nice arpeggiated synth keys. An amazing start, that sets the mood for the rest of the track. The drums are really on point, subtle yet making their presence felt. The kick drum makes you realize that Splash has put in a lot of effort in the mix. His vocals are nothing short of impressive and just mesmerizing how he can make all this come together by himself.

The song takes a whole new direction toward the 2 minute mark with some EDM style beats but then suddenly does a full 180 to come back to the original vibe. This genre bending is what makes Splash stand out and his music so interesting. Its one of those tracks that you can play on repeat until you get sick of it.

Overall an amazing song that just gets stuck in your head and is something you can play anywhere and anytime. Music that is easy to listen to!
