Of Nørth – The Record | Melancholy Musings

Of Nørth is an ambient pop duo. The duo is new and has only released two singles till now. ‘The Record’ is the latest one which was released on March 11th. Of Nørth is an interesting collaboration between Kasper Holm Larsen, a Danish producer and songwriter, and Angus Powell, a Welsh artist. The first single was ‘It’s over’ which is beyond magical to listen to.

The Record’ starts with a soft sound of wind and birds, also giving you an idea about the vibe of the song. Orbiting around a simple acoustic line, the song is built upon layers of reverb and sonic textures. ‘The Record’ is a simple breakup song with soothing vocals that bring out the melancholic feel. The slow pace of the song makes you introspect, while the vocals give you comfort by sounding familiar yet foreign. Through this song, Of Nørth takes you on an introspective journey, with minimal tools and through it leaves you with a feeling of calmness and contentment at the end of it all.

When I first heard this song, I was immediately reminded of Lord Huron’s ‘The night we met.’ It’s not often that you hear a song that has such a strong resemblance to another one, but when it happens, it’s really exciting to make that connection. It happened to me with ‘The Record,’ and made me fall in love with the song even more! I can’t wait for more such songs.
