BADSOMA – Honey Locust Trees | Smooth Psychedelia

BADSOMA is a solo Psych Pop project based in Orange County, California. The project is led by Iranian-American artist Armin Fard. Fard used to work as a producer and film composer until he realised his true passion for creating music. Taking inspiration from the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Tame Impala and Radiohead, BADSOMA has a deceptively minimal sound.

Honey Locust Tree is the latest track in the BADSOMA repertoire. This track starts off with extremely psychedelic synths with amazing pitch bends. The beats, while minimal, manage to drive the rhythm forward along with the synths. This track is so soothing and relaxing. Armin Fard has one of the most relaxing voices I’ve ever heard. The instrumental is extremely trance-like, keeping you focused on anything you are already doing. I find it particularly intriguing that the bass elements are so vivid throughout the track. Almost like they drive the melody forward instead of the other conventional instruments. I must add, however, that this track is so clean, yet the boundaries between elements are slightly blurred. As a fan of Psychedelia, this is exactly what I’m looking for in the music.

BADSOMA is, most certainly, an artist to look out for. Like Kevin Parker, Armin Fard has been creating his own sound with whatever he has. To create a track light this is absolutely brilliant. I cannot recommend Honey Locust Tree any more than I already have.

I listen to and make silly noises while analysing why people behave the way they do.
