Maddy Storm - Mattress

Maddy Storm – Mattress | seductive pop

Unapologetically pop, Maddy Storm is back with her first single of the year, called Mattress. The almost sad-emo pop track pushes the boundaries of new-age electro pop and goes hard all the way. Mattress is an amalgamation of a couple of different vibes, but all of them intersect with seductive, and we love it.

The song opens up with Maddy Storm’s sharp, husky vocals that anchor you throughout the duration of the track. The accompaniment for the vocals are not what you expect them to be, but come together in an interesting way. It has catchy and explosive hooks, which give it the quintessential pop characteristic. The track also has a groovy sub bass that pushes the song into hip-pop territory. The bass, not unlike 808’s is definitely something to look forward to and gives the track its surprise edge.

Storm also mentions that for the first time in her life, she didn’t over-think any aspect of the track and ended up recording the final voice takes on holiday in an airbnb in Brighton. Being cheeky, she also mentions the listeners to keep an ear out for any background noises in the tape as it was seagull season.

Maddy Storm considers herself to be an artist and producer of over-the-top-sad-pop-bops which are best accompanied by an ice-cold margarita, and Mattress is definitely hitting the playlist for my next girl’s night. Storm’s music blurs the line between pop and something almost indefinably grittier. Lying on the precipice of pop, hip-pop, electronica, Mattress by Maddy Storm definitely experiments with an edgier side of pop and we look forward to hearing more.
