April Gallo – Time Of Day | Soothing

April Gallo is a Soul and Jazz musician with the voice of a goddess. Hailing from Brunswick, she aims to capture the human experience of what it is to feel along with all the complications that come from the struggle between love and logic. April cites Joy Crookes and Jorja Smith as her idols, channelling and creating meaningful music. Having released music since last year, April now has four singles on her discography that you can stream!

Her latest single, Time Of Day, is a Jazzy little number. Relying heavily on rhythm instruments in the drums and bass that, I must say, are quite phenomenal. The groove reminds me a bit of Snarky Puppy and Vulfpeck, but that’s where the similarities end. April Gallo really owns the track with her voice. A clear voice that is smoother than a hot knife slicing through warm butter. The melodies are insanely dynamic, and I really don’t think anyone but April Gallo could actually sing this song. This may not be the most unique thought, but the piano/synth element that kicks in during the chorus really gets me going. Countermelodies and harmonies are like the cornerstone of any good Jazz/Soul piece and Time Of Day does it incredibly well.

If you’re a fan of Chet Faker, Hiatus Kaiyote and the likes, this is definitely the artist for you! Each element of the track, while minimal, plays a significant role in Time Of Day. Going into this as a music theory nerd should be a fun analysis! However, if you just want something smooth to relax to, turn it up because it is the vibe for any situation.

Be sure to stream Time Of Day and add it to your playlists, too!
